At an inaugural meeting in March 2006 a wide consultation process took place to facilitate the formation of lead bodies. (click here for consultation letter) Four proposed lead bodies were established:
- Sport horses and ponies - A new body to be set up in conjunction with British Breeding (see below for news on how this is progressing in more detail)
- Recreational horses and ponies - British Horse Society
- Native and indigenous horses and ponies - British Horse Society
- Racing thoroughbreds - Thoroughbred Breeders' Association
A Lead Body for Sport Horses and Ponies
British Breeding began the process of forming a Lead Body for the sport horse and pony sector with an initial meeting taking place on 24th January 2007.

On 7 June 2007 the Lead Body for British Performance Sport Horses and Ponies (PSHP) Steering Group presented their proposal to the industry.

On 16 November the Lead Body for British Performance Sport Horses and Ponies presented its recommendations back to the industry to hear their views.

The next step is for PSHP to demonstrate what benefits it can deliver to studbooks and breeders, before membership is launched, in order that the industry can have confidence in PSHP's ability to deliver upon its aims and objectives
