The Young Horse Training Scheme will shortly form a part of the Lead Body for the Performance Sport Horse and Pony (PSHP)process which was called-for in the Strategy for the Horse Industry in England and Wales (2005).
Responsibilities:
It will:
- Establish criteria for identifying and developing promising young-horse trainers and training programmes.
- Liaise with the Futurity Young Horse Evaluation Series Team to identify trainers who have consistently put forward correctly prepared young horses for the Evaluations.
This working group was originally set up by Director of Equine Development Graham Suggett to introduce programmes which would produce young horses in a way that maximises their talents, their potential to remain sound and where appropriate their marketability, whether they are used for recreational riding or for top international competitions. Having set standards for the training of young horses an education programme will be embarked upon for both trainers and evaluators of young horses. The group will also develop systems of recognition for successful young-horse trainers.
