UK Polocrosse Association has made a great start to developing and growing the sport in 2010 thanks to development money they received from Sport England, via the British Equestrian Federation.
The UK Polocrosse Association has spent some of the money it received on a subsidised equipment scheme, to allow new groups to purchase polocrosse equipment at a lower price.
UKPA Sport development officer Iain Heaton said, "Thanks to this money we were able to subsidise the cost of new starter kits of polocrosse equipment. By reducing the price on each one we were able to make them more affordable for the new groups who are taking up the sport and as a result they have sold incredibly quickly. We could actually have got rid of even more kits so we are looking to run a similar scheme again in the next few months"
The equipment mainly went to new pony club groups and riding centres who want to take up polocrosse. As well as providing equipment the UKPA provides coaches and advice for the new groups and works closely with the pony club to develop the sport.
"There is a really high demand for polocrosse equipment at the moment and lots of people who want to try the sport." said Iain, "we think the sport will really grow over the next few years, especially with the polocrosse world cup coming to the UK in 2011. We have already seen two new clubs established in 2010 and are talking to a number of riding groups of one type or another about them trying polocrosse."
