Three young northern showjumpers made the top ten at a hotly contested Open showjumping competition at Bramham Park in Wetherby on Sunday (6 June).
Hayley McCaie, Melissa Gair and Nicola Sheard are all members of the British Equestrian Federation's (BEF) North Regional Foundation Squad, which aims to identify and support riders who show the potential to progress to International sporting success.
Hayley finished 4th, Melissa 5th and Nicola 7th in the 1m 30 competition - beating off competition from leading riders such as Geoff Billington and Paul Barker.
"This is an excellent result for our North Regional Foundation Squad riders," said Emma White, Regional Development Coordinator & Regional Coach Yorkshire & NE British Equestrian Federation.
"I'm immensely proud of the girls - to have three riders from this region in the top seven and against such stiff competition is fantastic. It really proves what a wealth of talent we have here and is very exciting for the future."
The Regional Foundation Squads have been set up through funding from Sport England and are being co-ordinated by the British Equestrian Federation (BEF). The squads include the three Olympic and one Paralympic disciplines - dressage, eventing, show jumping and para-equestrian dressage.
