Foundation Squad riders selected for European Dressage Championships

1st July 2010

Young dressage riders Susannah Coleridge-Smith, from Buckinghamshire and Emily Harris, from Hampshire, both on the British Equestrian Federation's (BEF) South East Regional Foundation Squad, have been selected to represent Great Britain at the Young Rider Dressage European Championships (20-25 July) in Kronberg, Germany.

Alongside the two young riders, Samantha Thurman-Baker, from Oxfordshire has also been selected to represent Great Britain at the Junior Dressage European Championships (20-25 July) in Kronberg, Germany.

David Hamer, Regional Foundation Squad Coordinator commented on the selection; "This is a fantastic achievement for all three riders. The Regional Foundation Programme aims to identify and nurture talented young riders and they have all worked hard to achieve their place on the teams. I’m sure the rest of the squad will be rooting for them and we wish them all every success".

Susannah (20) heads out to the Championships with Nicola McGivern's Active Walero, a 17.1hh 19 year old bay gelding by Wanderer with Emily (19) competing Mrs J Sharrock's Washington 103, a 16.2hh 15 year old bay gelding by Walt Disney and Mr A Harris’ Don Diable, a 16.3hh nine year old black stallion by Don Cardinale. Samantha (17) will be taking her own horse, Spring Pascal, a 16.1hh 9 year old bay gelding out to the Championships.

The Regional Foundations Squads have been set up through funding from Sport England and are being co-ordinated by the BEF. The squads include the three Olympic and one Paralympic disciplines - dressage, eventing, showjumping and para-equestrian dressage.
