Breeding Research

The British Breeding Research Committee is chaired by Edith Rutherford. The Committee works with the BEF's Head of Equine Development to:

  • Establish a method to enable breeding details and competition success to be united into Equine Breeding Indices
  • Liase with the Futurity Young Horse Evaluations Committee to ensure that data from these events is of compatible format and range and is included on the National Equine Database (NED)
  • Liaise with NED to establish a mechanism for including Equine Breeding Values (EBVs)
  • Encourage interested parties to inform themselves of research findings available in many equine areas. Abstracts of research in many areas are available to view free of charge on the BEF's Researching Equines Database www.befred.org
  • Set up the BEF's Research Portfolio enabling research and academic establishments to liaise with industry to provide research that it needs and likewise that industry can commission research from establishments
