Equine and Breeding Research

This Strategic Aim works to:

• Establish a method to enable breeding details and competition success to be used to form Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs)es
• EBVs will then eventually feature on NED
• Encourage everyone to use equine research and information to inform their decisions. Abstracts of research in many areas are available to view free of charge on the BEF's Researching Equines Database BEFRED
• Have regular meetings with the academic and scientific communities to make sure that our understanding is up to speed. We have a BEF Equine Research Group, a BEFRED Advisory Group and a BEF Scientific Advisory Group. More info? Contact Jan

Opportunities:

We have received information from UK Sport about their New Researchers Award 2010, which is part of their Ideas 4 Innovations programme. They are requesting project applications from talented undergraduate or Masters students. The research project must have an elite performance impact and benefit to our Olympic and/or Paralympic sports. Eight finalists will get a cash prize of £500. Each will compete for a funding award of £25,000 to enable the researcher to undertake a further year of University based research. Should this be successful UK Sport may provide further funding to complete a PhD. Full details and application forms are available at:
