Non-UK EU Passports
If your horse already has a non-UK EU passport, it is important to try wherever possible to contact the original passport organisation or the daughter studbook in the UK. A list of recognised bodies offically approved or recognised for maintaining or establishing studbooks in the UK can be found on the Defra website. If you are unable to contact the original PIO or a daughter studbook in the UK, the BEF can update it for you. For instructions on how to do this and to download a form please click here.
FEI passports
The FEI passport is a document for identification of the horse and for registration of its movements. In addition it gives information on the vaccination status of the horse. The passport is mandatory for horses competing at most international FEI sanctioned events. Further information on the FEI website. Please contact your discipline to apply for an FEI passport.
FEI horse registration
It is now mandatory (since January 2006) for all horses and riders to be registered with the FEI before competing at an International event at home or abroad. This being regardless of whether they hold an existing FEI Passport or have already previously competed at International level.
